Melissa has graduated with a Master's degree in Human-Computer Interaction from the Georgia Institute of Technology in May 2019. She worked under Dr. Karen Feigh as a Graduate Research Assistant on a NASA funded project, “Technologies for Mixed-Initiative Plan Management for Human Space Flight”. The goals for the project were to develop a mixed-initiative plan to aid astronauts in creating and managing flight schedules during deep space missions. Melissa's interest areas include complex interface design for aviation applications and human factors.
Before joining the Cognitive Engineering Center, Melissa graduated from the University of Virginia with a B.S. in Systems Engineering with High Honors. Upon completion of her degree, she joined GE's Information Technology Leadership Program (ITLP) and performed roles as a UX Designer, Developer, and Project Manager.

NASA’s future missions will push the bounds of human-space exploration and challenge the mission designers and engineers to create automated systems that will enable the joint human-automation teams to operate more autonomously as they move further from terrestrially based mission control and the time lag of communication becomes a challenge.
